Affirmation: “I am enough.”
Journal Prompt:
What are my best qualities?
Self-Care Ritual:
Do you know the definition of the word enough?
It means you have as much or as many as needed.
Do you believe that definition applies to you?
It’s not surprising, in the world today, that you might not.
We’re constantly being told we’re not enough.
Sometimes overtly, sometimes subtly, but we’re always being told.
We need to be more…
We need to be less…
What we were born with isn’t enough.
Nearly everywhere we go, and in almost everything we do, we’re told…
We should to be plucked, and tucked, and puffed and stuffed.
We should buy the latest clothes, newest make-up, and latest skin care products.
We should have straighter teeth, and frizzless hair; it can always be curlier, shinier, or have more volume.
Of course it needs low-lights, or highlights, or brightening, but for sure, it cannot be gray.
We should all be skinny, and active, and eat healthy, or be working to get that way.
We should all have a large group of friends, male and female alike, and always exclude anyone who doesn’t think exactly like we do.
We should speak a specific way, using just the right pronouns, and never mistakenly address someone wrong.
We should all think only one side of politics is right, and never trust the others, or anyone who agrees with them.
We allow all that noise to be the reflective glass in which we see ourselves, and it’s no wonder we never think we’re not enough!
And NONE of those things even address who we truly ARE.
They have nothing to do with how smart,
or funny,
or strong, we are.
They don’t speak to our compassion,
or our capabilities,
or our skills.
They don’t acknowledge our unique passions,
or our gifts and talents.
So let’s get some things clear, okay?
You are NOT:
what you do,
what you did,
what you haven’t done,
what you shouldn’t have done,
what someone else says you are,
what someone else says you aren’t.
You are so much more than all those external things!
You are whole, and all that you need to be, just as you are!
Sometimes you are a mess, and sometimes you are pure magic, but all the time, you are amazing!
You’ve always been enough, from the second you were created!
You’ve always been enough, just by being just who you are!
You are enough!
YOU ARE ENOUGH!
And today’s self-care ritual is going to help you create a piece of artwork to remind you!
So, grab a blank sheet of paper, some markers, crayons, paints…
whatever YOU think is awesome, and let’s get started.
In the center of the piece of paper, write
I AM ENOUGH!
Now, take a regular pen, or pencil, or skinny tip marker, and use your journaling to write all the things you think are great about you! And hopefully, while you do it, you will think of other things to add.
When you’re finished, I want you to hang it up…
On your fridge, on your bathroom mirror, on the wall by your bed…
Somewhere you can see it all the time, so it can remind you…
YOU ARE ENOUGH!
