Affirmation: “I have balance within me.”
Journal Prompt:
How can I celebrate myself more?
Self-Care Ritual:
Have you ever enjoyed the thrill of watching a child take their first steps? As a momma, auntie, and gammie, I’ve seen it many times. Each occurrence is still so exciting!
You see the little kiddo, standing on their own. They’re mustering their courage. And as the adult, you know what’s around the corner for them, so you’re likely adding fuel to their energy frenzy, with cheers of encouragement.
And suddenly,
they wobble,
they teeter;
one little foot lifts,
they lean the opposite direction,
and now you’re holding your breath.
Your cheers are silent now, as you watch and wait…
That first foot goes down,
they teeter the other way,
their other foot lifts up,
and down it goes too,
and with a burst of excitement their of!
Their feet begin alternating,
apparently without effort,
and in the blink of an eye,
they’re across the floor,
having taken several steps on their own!
We cheer, and laugh, and maybe cry a little. And the child is elated, knowing they’ve elicited such a response. So now, they want to do it more, and garner that praise and adoration.
What sometimes happens though, once those first steps take place, is that we forget how special it really was.
We forget how long it took to reach the walking milestone.
We forget all the milestones that came along, on the way to walking.
There was this tiny newborn, who needed everything done for them. And then they could hold their own head up, and rolling over became the goal.
And once that was accomplished, there came the hands and knees rocking, and the commando crawling, and then hands & knees crawling.
And once those were mastered, baby could get to the table, or the sofa, and pulling up to stand was the new task. I can recall that moment vividly with my oldest child, and it still brings a catch to my throat, seeing it in my mind.
Then, once they were upright, came learning to stand alone.
And all of them had to be mastered, before those first steps could be taken.
And there are many others that come after it too, like running, and talking, and school, and the list goes on and on. And before long, we’re get caught up in all the other markers of progress.
We grow older, more bogged down in the trials and tribulations of living. And we start to get anxious about not doing it all perfectly. We get a bit hard around the edges, and start to feel like progress isn’t even begin made.
We need to step back, and remember just how much work went in to learning to walk in the first place. And how even once we were walking, we weren’t super stable at first, let alone running. That skill didn’t come for a bit longer.
We need to find a way back to where we celebrate every baby step we take, as a major milestone. Or at the very least, as the forward progress those steps truly are.
So here is your ritual for the day –
Go through your journaling, and select a few of the ways you can celebrate yourself, and make a plan to do them! Make the time to stop, smell the roses, and celebrate just how hard you’ve worked to be walking at all!!!
Love & light to you!!!

Self-Love Challenge Day 9
Affirmation: “I am filled with gratitude.”
Journal Prompt:
What parts of me, and/or the life I’ve lived, am I grateful for?
Self-Care Ritual:
Write yourself a thank you card.
That’s right, a thank you card.
Get a plain white sheet of paper, and fold it in half, top to bottom. Then fold it in half again, side to side, until you have what looks like a card.
Find a pen, or a pencil, or a marker, or a crayon, and write yourself a thank you card. Fill it with all the things you wrote about in your journaling.
Now, stand it up on your nightstand, or your dresser top, or your bathroom counter… somewhere you will see it every day. And when you see it, think about all the things you are grateful for about you, and tell yourself “Thank You” for being so amazing!
Self-Love Challenge Day 8
Affirmation: “I am confident and empowered.”
Journal Prompt:
When do I feel the most confident & empowered?
Self-Care Ritual:
Have you ever heard the story of the two wolves?
It’s an old Cherokee teaching about life.
It begins with the idea that we each have a battle going on inside each of us. It is a terrible fight, between two wolves.
One wolf is all the negative energy – anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
The other wolf is the good energy – joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.
Every day of our lives, we are in charge of which energy wolf will win. And it’s a very simple decider…
Which wolf wins, depends on which one you feed.
Whichever you feed, will grow. And the law of reversibility therefore applies as well, so that whichever you starve, will die.
In your journal writing, you searched yourself to bring to mind all the ways you’ve ever felt confident and empowered. Your self-care ritual is to confidently, and powerfully choose to step into those things you wrote about.
Take some time to find a quiet place, and meditate on those things you wrote about. Allow yourself to feel all the things you did in those moments. Regardless of where or when, no matter who was with you, YOU chose those moments as your most powerful. Relish in what that felt like, and draw it deeply into your being.
Allow those amazing feelings of confidence and power to radiate through you again. Allow them to feed the faith you have in yourself. Allow them to catapult you into believing that you deserve to feel that way more often than you don’t!
It is your choice. Every day of your life, it is you -vs- you, so feed the one that allows the best version of you to grow!
Self-Love Challenge Day 7
Affirmation: “I forgive myself for the mistakes I’ve made.”
Journal Prompt:
What do I need to forgive myself for right now?
Self-Care Ritual:
Have you ever gotten a splinter before?
That tiny piece of wood, lodged just under the surface of your skin, is like unforgiveness. It is causing pain, because it sits in a tender place. And bumping it, increases the pain. And the idea of removing it, is sometimes an added source of pain as well.
But what happens if we don’t remove it?
Your immune system sees it as an intruder, and goes on the defensive. This could mean swelling and redness in that area. If the splinter isn’t removed, the body will likely try to push the splinter out. What’s more, pockets of pus may form to help expel the splinter.
If you leave the splinter longer, it’s going to begin the process of decomposing. It doesn’t have the ability to go anywhere either, as it’s trapped by the skin that grew over it. And your inflammatory response continues as well, so the area can sometimes develop a bump… a protective bubble of immune cells, that surround the foreign object. By now, you can tell it is infected.
And any infection left untreated, can spread and cause other issues. If left long enough, it can turn into septicemia, or blood poisoning. So leaving a splinter alone isn’t without risks… the splinter needs to come out, as soon as possible, because the body reacts to it.
When we don’t forgive an offense against us, we’re basically allowing a splinter to stay under our skin.
The original offense is a tiny splinter. But if we don’t remove it right away, and instead choose to focus on it, it expands. Meaning the anger, frustration, bitterness, animosity, etc., are all expanding… growing bigger in us… becoming an infection.
And if it’s an offense against our self, we’re creating all that negative, infectious energy in our own being, directed at our own being. Therefore, it is exponentially magnified. We are hitting ourselves with the double whammy!!!
So, we MUST remove the splinters… as soon as possible!
The good news is, true healing comes about by willful choice and action. In other words, intentionally choosing to take action, will bring you healing!
Think about the things you wrote in your journaling today. Make a willful choice to forgive yourself for those things. Tell yourself that you’re sorry for not tending to your body in the beginning of the issue, and work to remove the splinter from yourself.
It sounds hard, but facing it is half the battle. And while not everything that is faced can be changed, nothing can changed until it is faced. You can choose to face these things, and intentionally pull them out of your life, so the healing can begin.
It is the most amazing act of self-love… to forgive yourself!
Self-Love Challenge Day 6
Affirmation: “My body is strong and beautiful!”
Journal Prompt:
What are the most beautiful parts of me?
Self-Care Ritual:
What I’m about to ask you to do might be a tough task for some, but I promise you will not regret it.
I want you to stand in front of a mirror, and tell yourself the daily affirmation. And then, I want you to do it again. In fact, I want you to do it slowly, with a deep sense of truly loving yourself, for a total of 31 times!!!
Why 31?
Well, the task itself, is called Mega-Drilling, and it’s been proven to be especially powerful for creating a memory that sticks…. and I want you to always remember that you ARE beautiful. So, in order to do that, you need to tell your brain it is true, and then actively recall the memory 30 times.
And, if you really want to challenge yourself into some radical self-love, you can continue this process for the remaining affirmations over the coming 22 days. AND, maybe just go wild for your self-love, and go backward to the 5 previous affirmations too!!! If you do, there is NO WAY you will come away from this challenge without a stronger love of your amazing self!!!
Self-Love Challenge Day 5
Affirmation: “I can make it through anything!”
Journal Prompt:
What are some of the biggest challenges I have overcome?
Self-Care Ritual:
Celebrate Yourself!
There have been so many challenges in my life over the last 18 months.
Who I am now, in comparison to the woman I was back then, is night-to-day different.
I can clearly see the results of my deep dive into healing. As I look over my journaling, I realize I am truly proud of the work I’ve done.
Look at your own journaling, and allow yourself to feel pride in all you’ve accomplished.
It doesn’t have to be what the rest of the world would say is an achievement either. If it was a challenge, and you got to the other side of it, regardless of anything, THAT IS A WIN FOR YOU!
Take a moment to revel in how far you’ve come. Celebrate the fact that you beat those challenges, they didn’t beat you! And if you’re feeling brave… share your achievement in the comments. I’d love to celebrate you too!
Self-Love Challenge Day 4
Affirmation: “I am always growing.”
Journal Prompt:
What new things do I want to try? What’s holding me back from doing them?
Self-Care Ritual:
“The mind, once stretched by a new idea, never returns to its original dimensions.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
We are no longer the person we once were, and can’t go backward into that old idea of who we are.
Once something new has expanded our life, it’s not possible to ever return to being that person.
We are FOREVER changed!
To incorporate this concept into your life, go through what you wrote in your journal, and pick one new thing to try. Make the effort to schedule it into the coming days.
Take this step forward, and expand your mind with this new idea, so you can experience some amazing growth!
Self-Love Challenge Day 3
Affirmation:
“My voice is meaningful and powerful.”
Journal Prompt:
Do I find it easy to ask for help? If not, what is stopping me from asking for help?
Self-Care Ritual:
If you never ask for what you desire, the answer will always be “no”.
If that’s true, then you have nothing to lose in asking, right?
Read through what you wrote in your journal, and choose one place in your life where you can use your powerful voice to bring about a meaningful change for yourself.
Ask… the answer just might surprise you!
Self-Love Challenge Day 2
Affirmation:
“I choose out of love, not fear.”
Journal Prompt:
Where can I choose love, instead of letting fear hold me back?
Self-Care Ritual:
Take a deep breath, and step into something you’ve been afraid to try before. Eat a new food. Take a different way home. Go a bit bolder with your clothing choices. Do one thing, that’s outside your norm, and let yourself experience how good it feels to do something for you.
You never know, it might become your new favorite!!!
Self-Love Challenge Day 1
Affirmation:
“I believe in myself!”
Journal Prompt:
“What do I love most about myself?”
Self-Care Ritual:
Take a selfie, and spend some time really observing yourself.
How are you truly feeling about you, right now, today?
Write it down, being as detailed as possible. Then, at the end of the 28 days, you can look back, and compare notes.
